05/05/2014

Casa África and the airline company Binter today signed a strategic partnership agreement to promote greater knowledge of the African continent in the Canary Islands, whose climax will every year be the popular celebration during the month of May of Africa Day, under the brand Africa Vive, through a comprehensive package of activities.

Casa África's Director General, Luis Padrón, and Binter's General Coordinator, Juan Ramsden, today presented the agreement and schedule of activities for Africa Vive, which will bring activities to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Madrid. These activities include various proposals of photography, gastronomy, sports, literature, film, journalism, music, architecture, lectures and round tables to bring us closer and better to Africa.

Africa Day is officially celebrated on 25th May, the date which also marks the anniversary of the creation of the African Union. However, the planned activities in Africa Vive extend this time from 8th May, with the opening at Casa Africa of the Dakar Man to Man exhibition, until 27th May, when a session with the Group of African Ambassadors in Spain (GEA) will conclude the programme in Madrid.

Binter joins up this year with Africa Vive as the main partner of the events held in the Canary Islands. The airline company that communicates the Canary Islands with Africa, sponsors and co-organises activities such as the Football Tournament of African teams which is carried out in collaboration with the Federation of African Associations in the Canary Islands, the publication and presentation of a new political map of the continent, the Great Africa Vive concert in the Parque de Santa Catalina and Africa Night to be held at Casa África and the Parque de Santa Catalina for two consecutive nights, and which will include gastronomic events, concerts, dance, percussion and interpretation workshops together with storytelling. Among the names listed in the Africa Vive programme we should mention the female photographers Elise Fitte Duval and Ana Yturralde, the journalists Alberto Rojas and Rachel Villaécija, and  the musicians Nayaband, Germán López and the Thioune Brothers.
