La exposición fotográfica 'Desvelos' llega a Huelva

Casa África brings the Desvelos photography exhibit, by the Cameroonian Angèle Etoundi Essamba, to Huelva. It will coincide with the Huelva Photography Festival, Latitudes21, which will take place from 21 February to 03 April 2011.

The exhibit, commissioned by Landry-Wilfrid Miampika, consists of 53 colour photographs that show the beauty and sensuality of African women wrapped in veils. In the photographer´s own words, the aim is to break the stereotypes that surround veils by showing a sensual, elegant and dignified woman, proving that the physical veil is not necessarily a mental veil.

Angèle Etoundi Essamba´s work deals with women in general and black women in particular, who are the preferred subject matter that provide the artist with a continuous inspiration. In a certain way, her photography is a "self-portrait," and as a result, she immortalizes her own experiences:  maternity, contrast through the experiences of a black woman in a white world, harmony, mixed races, free women who are able to choose, etc.
