Jalal El Hakmaoui

His collection of poems ‘Certificat de célibat’ has converted him into one of Moroccan poetry’s main figures.

Poet, translator and director of the international poetry magazine Electron libre, Jalal al-Hakmaoui was born in Casablanca , Morocco in 1957. He currently lives in Rabat.

He has been a translator of poets like Allen Ginsberg, Edmond Jabès, Nino Judice and Abdel-Ilah Salhi, and has published anthologies of Belgium and Dutch poetry. This writer also takes care of the Moroccan Writers Union's foreign affairs.

In 1997 he published his first collection of poems, Certificat de célibat ('Bachelor certifícate'), and in 2006 Allez un peu au cinéma. He also took part in a collective book, Das Bild Des Andern, published by Casa Rabat in Berlin.
