The mayor of Mindelo, Augusto Cesar Lima Neves visited Casa África this afternoon to see first-hand the institution and its work with the archipelago of Cape Verde. He was received by Casa África's Secretary General, Arianne Hernandez, and the institution's head of Culture and Education, Juan Jaime.
The representative of the Municipal Chamber of San Vicente Island was particularly interested in the work of cultural diplomacy of the Casa, the institution's relations with his country and the initiatives in the tourism sector in which Casa África is involved. The Casa's representatives explained projects like the Cape Verde Scene Exhibition or the Cape Verde Vis a Vis, among others, with which the institution has worked with the Cape Verde archipelago.
The island of San Vincente and the city of Mindelo are an internationally known source of artists who express them creatively in them. The birthplace of "morna", it is related to the figure of Cesaria Evora and other big names in the history of the music of Cape Verde and the world. Mindelo’s main industry is culture, which is expressed not only through music, but with carnival, crafts and demonstrations.
