Casa Africa shows its work with Morocco in the 2nd Cultural Encounter between the Canary Islands and Morocco

05/05/2014

Casa Africa participated in the 2nd Cultural Encounter between the Canary Islands and Morocco that was carried out in San Bartolome de Tirajana last weekend, hosted by the Casa Canary Islands-Moroccan Cultural Association (ACCM) with the cooperation of the Town Council of the south of Gran Canaria. The institution's General Secretary, Arianne Hernandez, and the Head of Culture and Education, Juan Jaime, explained Casa Africa's work with Morocco in a conference held on Friday at the Cultural Centre of Maspalomas. The Casa also used its presence at this meeting to display, through its own stand, its editorial work. Attendees were able to discover the latest developments in its literature, politics and history essay collections and also browse some of the bibliography from Casa África's Media Library which is related to Morocco and is available on loan to the public who may be interested.

Casa África's relationship with Morocco is fluid and continuous. Only in 2013, seventeen of the Casa's activities were related to the neighbouring country, which made it, together with Senegal, the country that is the most present in the Casa's work. These activities include, in the economic sphere, Morocco's participation in initiatives such as the Forum for Business and Tourism Investment in Africa organised by Casa África with the World Tourism Organisation and FITUR and the celebration of the Business Opportunities Conference in Morocco held at the Chamber of Commerce of Gran Canaria. In the field of education, special mention should be given to the celebration in Agadir of the Meeting of Spanish and African universities, which Casa África supports and has funded since its inception. Also of note is the inclusion of the country, through Agadir and Casablanca in the West Africa City Network led by the Town Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and which was presented at Casa África.
