Casa África participates in a ConfiÁfrica partnership meeting in Cape Verde

08/05/2019

This week, Ana Cárdenes, head of Business and the Economy at Casa África, and Yurena Ojeda, an official from that department, are attending the fifth development co-operation meeting with the partners of the ConfiÁfrica project, which is taking place in Cape Verde.

This is the third such meeting to be held in Africa, following meetings in Mauritania and Senegal. Casa África gave an open innovation seminar for fifteen Cape Verde companies and the staff of the Barlovento Chamber of Commerce. This seminar was also previously presented in Mauritania and Senegal. In addition, the event was also used to raise awareness of the international bidding programme LICIRED.

Confiáfrica has a budget of nearly one million euros, financed by the European Union through the ERDF Regional Development Fund, and is part of the INTERREG MAC 2014-2020 Programme (Azores, Madeira, Canary Islands). This international co-operation project aims to strengthen the relationship of the Canary Islands with African entities to enhance business opportunities together through new strategies in the markets. Participating in this project, in addition to Casa África, are the Chambers of Commerce of Senegal, Cape Verde, Mauritania, Tenerife and Gran Canaria and the metal industry federations of Las Palmas and Tenerife.

Confiáfrica’s activity focuses on training businesspeople and the technical staff of African chambers of commerce on various actions aimed at facilitating business and mutual understanding between people from the Canary Islands and Africa. Part of this project is therefore the maintenance of the AfricaInfoMarket portal, dedicated to providing information about the African economy.

The inaugural session of the partnership meeting in Cape Verde was attended by the Spanish ambassador in Cape Verde, Dolores Ríos, and the secretary general of Femete, José González.
