Author's Week reaches the Canary Islands with thoughts on music and human rights.

11/12/2012

The Author's Foundation of the General Society of Authors and Publishers (SGAE) has included the capital of Gran Canaria in the celebration of Author's Week with a round table that was undertaken at Casa África yesterday afternoon and in which the musicians Pedro Guerra, Arístides Moreno and Jean Naya took part. Together with them, the coordinator of Amnesty International  (AI) Spain in the Canary Islands, Delia Padrón, and the journalist José Antonio Neketán reflected on the links between the work of authors and the defence of human rights.

The event was first started with a brief presentation by SGAE's director in the Canary Islands, Cristina del Río Fresen, and head of the Culture and Education Area for Casa África, Juan Jaime Martínez, which then led to the round table. It ended with a short musical performance from the three guest authors.

The Author's Foundation holds this ninth edition of Author's Week with the aim of working on new formulas for meetings and debate in society using music and the support of authors. A group of renowned artists, including Nawja Nimri, Lluvia Rojo, La Shica, Anni B Sweet, Jorge Drexler, Nacho Campillo, Carlos Goñi, Carlos Jean, Javier Corcobado and Javier Ruibal, back this initiative by lending their image, for purely altruistic motives, in a video with a message of solidarity and commitment.  Radio 3 acts as the official media for the Author's Week initiative, which started in Pontevedra on the 1st December and that includes an extensive programme of concerts and round tables in eleven Spanish cities cities under the slogan Authors for Human Rights.
