Fatiha Morchid

Representative of the new Moroccan female poetic sensitivity, characterized by simplicity in diction and style.

She was born on 14 March 1958. She got her PhD in Medicine in 1985, specializing in Paediatrics. Different from most Moroccan writers – who generally arrived at poetry from the world of letters – Morchid comes from the field of science, which has helped free her poetry from bandages and academicism.

She hosted a program on health education for a few years on Moroccan public television. She has also participated in various cultural meetings and poetry recitals, both in and outside of Morocco (Chauen, Rabat, Miknasa, El Cairo, Panama, Paris, Tunisia,…).

She has published many books, the most prominent being: Señas (2002) (Signs), Hojas enamoradas (2003) (Lovestruck sheets), Llovemos (2005) (We rain), Libro de primeros auxilios para niños (2005) (First aide book for infants), ¿Qué oscuridad estás ocultando arco iris? (2006) (What obscurity is hiding the rainbow) and Diversión de tentáculos (2009) (Tentacle fun).
