21/06/2010

Casa África participates in the Círculo de Bellas Artes' Noches Bárbaras in Madrid with an African film season that starts on Tuesday, June 22, and that will show some of the continent´s musical treasures in documentary format. The film season will open with Tras las huellas de Bembeya Jazz (Following the Footprints of Bembeya Jazz), a documentary that tells how in 1961, Bembeya Jazz thrives in a town in the middle of Guinea Conakry´s tropical forest.  In a short period of time, this musical group becomes the most important modern African orchestra and leads the Sékou Touré revolution. Momo el patriarca (Momo the Patriarch) is the film that will close the festival on Sunday the 27th at 10:00 pm. It´s a documentary that narrates the story of the true king of swing and improvisation, Momo Wandel Soumah, the patriarch of African jazz.

Noches Bárbaras are being held for the sixth consecutive year in the Círculo de Bellas Artes of Madrid. Musicians who tend to be street performers are the centre of attention in this initiative, a festival of wandering music.
