The Rary company of Madagascar participates in the first creative internship for contemporary African dance in La Gomera

06/10/2010

The Rary contemporary African dance company will complete a creative internship that, as of this past Tuesday and through October 17th, will delight interested audiences with workshops, professional exchanges and training classes at the Centro Coreográfico de La Gomera. This initiative, promoted by Casa África and which forms part of the África en Movimiento (Africa in Motion) programme, arises from the objective of fostering the creative exchange between Spanish and African dancers, and bringing African stage arts (in this case contemporary dance) closer to Canarian audiences.

The Rary Company, from Madagascar, is one of the most well-known and popular dance groups of Southern Africa. Its director and choreographer, Ariry Andriamoratsiresy, is considered to be the creator of a completely new language, part way between African traditions and identity, and European choreographic language. Ariry, who already participated in the 1st Africa-Spain Choreography Meeting this past January, believes that the island´s geographic characteristics and the opportunity to interact with the people of La Gomera will be a good source of inspiration and an excellent opportunity to continue working on the VATO concept, a Madagascn word that means "rock" and a theme that throughout the years has inspired a large number of artists from various countries.
