The Kilimanjaro expedition led by Enhamed Enhamed visits Casa África

12/06/2014

Enhamed Enhamed is one of the most successful Paralympic athletes in history. In constant search of new challenges, he has just finished an extreme triathlon, the Ironman of Lanzarote, which makes him the first Spanish blind athlete to finish a triathlon. Now he aims to complete the climb to Kilimanjaro, between late July and early August, in an expedition to take place in the pause that extends from the end of the Football World Cup and the start of the World Basketball Cup.

The group that Enhamed Enhamed belongs is led by the mountain climber Javier Cruz with the logistical organisation of Calima Trek. Both were accompanied on the visit to Casa África, by the head of Sports Canarias 7, Ignacio Diaz Acedo, and the editor Alberto Artiles. Canarias 7 has a strong commitment to bring the world of mountaineering and the highest mountains of the world closer to the Canary Island public. Last year Alberto Artiles participated in two expeditions of the same type, which took him to the Toubkal (Morocco) and the Himalayas (Nepal). The new expedition, which will attempt to reach the summit of the highest mountain in Africa, is set for the end of the rainy season, using the Marangu route which is the most common, of 64 miles. Although it is not technically complex, as its path is equipped with shelters at 2,750 metres, 3,780 metres and 4,732 metres, the influence of altitude sickness may make the route difficult. The challenge of climbing to the summit is framed by multi-sport events in Gran Canaria 2014, which has the Basketball Cup 2014 as the protagonist. The expedition wanted, through this visit, to foster synergies with Casa África and seek advice for the trip.
