Euro-African police officers discover Casa África

Casa África yesterday took part in the 8th Euro-African Police Conference on Irregular Migration, held this week at the Hotel Santa Catalina, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The initiative, organised by the Civil Guard, takes place as part of the West Sahel Mauritania Project, co-funded by the European Union and which has benefited from the presence of this institution in the past.

Jose Luis Márquez, Casa África's manager, and Ana Cárdenes, head of the Department of Economics and Business, spelled out yesterday before a visit by high ranking police officers from 25 European countries, 26 African countries and nine international organisations the institution's programme of activities and explained its work and peculiarities. The manager also moderated one of the panels of the programme yesterday morning at the Hotel Santa Catalina.

This initiative affects the strengthening of cooperation and dialogue between the security forces and bodies involved in the management of irregular immigration at transnational level, especially with regard to safeguarding human lives. It also involves, in addition to professionals from over 50 countries, and organisations like the European Commission, Europol, Interpol, Frontex, Eurojust, UNESCO, ECOWAS and IOM. Casa Africa participated in the panel on human development in West Africa and cooperation mechanisms. The conference concluded today after three days of intensive exchange and joint work.
