Our mission is to bring Africa and Spain closer
Through outreach, educational, economic, and cultural activities, we foster mutual understanding and strengthen Hispanic African relations.
From today, Casa África is hosting the exhibition Don Quijote en el río Níger (Don Quixote on the Niger River), with 40 original works by illustrators from the Sahel. The exhibition will remain open at the headquarters of the institution until 17 April. It is a cultural initiative of the Spanish embassies in the Republic of Guinea, Mali and Niger, developed within the framework of the ACERCA Programme of training for the development of the cultural sector. This programme is run by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) with the collaboration of the International and Ibero-American Foundation for Administration and Public Policies (FIIAPP). Thanks to this exhibition, the Spanish public can consider the figure of this most universal nobleman through various African viewpoints.
Don Quixote on the Niger River has sought to achieve three objectives. Firstly, to make Miguel de Cervantes’ work known in Africa, carrying a message which is relevant to the people of the region, interpreting this most universal chivalric novel through the local artistic culture, on the occasion of this important event. Secondly, to promote Guinean, Malian and Nigerian cultures, developing the capacities of local artists, who often lack both means and visibility. And finally, to articulate a genuine cultural dialogue between Spain and these three countries of West Africa and the Sahel. As the gentleman himself has already said: “Walking the land and communicating with different people makes men astute”.
