Among the activities planned for Africa Vive 2014, an initiative from Casa Africa to celebrate Africa Day (25th May) takes place with this round table on urban growth in sub-Saharan Africa to be held at the Cervantes Institute.

The idea is to hold a debate in round table format followed by Question Time with 0 rows. It will be attended by panellists such as:

  • Dr. Joan Clos, Executive Director of UN-HABITAT and UN Deputy Secretary-General;
  • architects Manuel Martín and Vicente Diaz, authors of Casa África's 5th Essay Prize;
  • and architect Paz Nuñez, an expert in urban planning and cooperation in North Africa, who will also act as moderator for this debate to which representatives from universities, NGOs with projects related to habitability in Africa and the Institute of Cooperation in Basic Habitability (ICHaB), among others, will be invited

In addition, as part of this activity, the book A way of facing the African city, winner of the 5th edition of Casa África's Essay Prizes will be presented, an event that is held annually and in 2013 had the theme The African city, its development, its present and its future. The book, which is part of Casa África's Essay Collection, stresses the need for direct, interdisciplinary and active participation of African societies in creating their cities.
