TEMUDAS FEST presents 'Essat', a musical about fire

26/07/2013

Fire, a common element among different peoples and one of the main resources of street theatre, becomes the protagonist of Essat, the fourth show presented by FEST TEMUDAS of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (5th July - 3rd August), an international multidisciplinary arts venue organised by the capital's Town Council.

The French group La Salamandre, with over 22 years of history as a street theatre company that is an expert in the use of fire, comes on Friday 26th and Saturday 27th July, 10 p.m., to the annex of the the Plaza de la Música of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, with this musical show that means fire in Ethiopian and that uses music and dance as the conducting threads of a story that reflects on cultural globalisation.

The Salamander uses for this musical extravaganza Azmaris bases (an Ethiopian social group made up of men and women who sing and play music), reinterpreted live together with rock, rap and mixer tables. Folk songs, traditional litanies, fragments that move audiences to the roots of African culture, to primitive cultures, are accompanied live by instruments made from everyday objects and by dances from about twenty actors and dancers with a bare torso or covered with simple clothing.

The surroundings of the fourth show of TEMUDAS FEST, in the annex of the Plaza de la Música, will also host that weekend concerts and an exhibition of BMX Flatland, sponsored by Red Bull, included among the parallel activities of this international meeting.
