Sports weekend with Africa Vive

16/05/2014

Casa África continues with the activities organised in collaboration with Binter under the heading Africa Vive, an initiative that celebrates Africa Day (25 May) with a programme of cultural, economic, academic and sports events in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Madrid. This weekend it is sport's turn, with the Africa Vive Football Tournament which will bring together four African teams at the  Manuel Naranjo Sosa (Las Arenas) sports complex on Saturday. This is an initiative in which the Federation of African Associations in the Canary Islands (FAAC) also collaborates, with whom Casa África has worked with for quite a few years through awareness, culinary, sporting and cultural projects.

The tournament will begin tomorrow, Saturday, at 4.30 p.m. and will involve teams from Ghana, Equatorial Guinea, Morocco and Senegal. Admission to watch the games is free and the tournament will run throughout this evening only and conclude with the awards ceremony.

Furthermore, the 13th Ports Foundation Half Marathon of Las Palmas will be held on Sunday 18th May from 09:00 a.m. and will start from the Intercambiador de Santa Catalina. Africa Vive continues on Monday with the presentation of the exhibition Teaching about Africa, which includes work of students from forty secondary schools that have taken part in this programme, which is the result of collaboration of the Government of the Canary Islands, the University of Las Palmas Gran Canaria, the Ramon Areces Foundation and Casa África.
