Our mission is to bring Africa and Spain closer
Through outreach, educational, economic, and cultural activities, we foster mutual understanding and strengthen Hispanic African relations.
Praia's (Cape Verde) mayor, José Ulisses Correira Silva, finds himself in Las Palmas of Gran Canaria carrying out an official visit following an invitation by the city's mayor, Juan José Cardona. As part of this visit, the town councillor got to see Casa África's headquarters, an institution that has collaborated in the management of his agenda on the island, and he also used it as the venue for a meeting with the colony of students from Cape Verde who live in Gran Canaria.
José Ulisses Correira Silva has made the most of his stay in Gran Canaria by meeting up with different authorities, such as his namesake in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria; the president of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, José Miguel Bravo de Laguna; the president of the Port Authority, Luis Ibarra, and the rector of the University Las Palmas of Gran Canaria, José Regidor. The mayor from Cape Verde used his visit to get to know the different projects of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria's Town Council and check on the work to recover the city's markets or the pedestrianisation of commercial areas, among other matters. Praia and Las Palmas of Gran Canaria have been twinned since 2009, and are currently trying to strengthen their links through different mutual collaboration projects.
At Casa África, Praia's mayor took part in a lunch accompanied by Las Palmas of Gran Canaria's mayor, Juan José Cardona; the president of the Canary Islands Confederation of Businesses (CCE), Sebastián Sánchez Grisaleña; the president of the Chamber of Commerce of Las Palmas, José Sánchez Tinoco; the vice-president of the Chamber and the person in charge of foreign trade, María de la Salud Gil; Casa África's Director General, Santiago Martínez-Caro; the Casa's Secretary General, Luis Padilla; the Casa's manager, José Luis Márquez; and the person in charge of the Department for Economics and Business, Ico Sánchez-Pinto, as well as the vice-consul for Cape Verde in the Canary Islands, Juan Cárdenes.
In the afternoon, in a pleasant and friendly environment, Praia's mayor met up in Casa África with a representation of students from Cape Verde who are presently on the island finishing their academic training.
