Next week, the Paraninfo of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria will host debates, reflections and analyses of cooperation policies in favour of the human rights of Africans, focusing specifically on lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transsexuals. Casa África collaborates in the 2nd Conference of LGBT Human Rights in Africa, which will be inaugurated by the Triángulo Foundation on Monday, May 23rd, with an event honouring the homosexual activist David Kato, who was murdered earlier this year because of his sexual orientation.
George Freeman, an activist for the rights of young gays, will represent Sierra Leone, a country where homosexuality is punished with jail. Nigeria will be represented by Stephen Chuikhumanh, member of the Young Coalition, which is a global work network that is represented in Lagos, the nation´s capital.
Building hate and homophobia in the Maghreb media will be another topic of debate, with the participation of the Tunisian researcher and activist Moujib Errahame Khaldi. Cameroon relies on the voice of Achille Tiedjou, member of the NGO ADEFHO (Association for the Defence of Homosexuality), which operates in a country where homosexuality is a crime.
