Our mission is to bring Africa and Spain closer
Through outreach, educational, economic, and cultural activities, we foster mutual understanding and strengthen Hispanic African relations.
The role of social networks in the changes being experienced by the African continent, the figure of cyber-activists and the mobilisation of civil society through new technologies was the main theme of the round table which played a leading role last Thursday, 22nd May at the Carlos de Amberes Foundation (C / Claudio Coello, 99, Madrid), from 8 p.m., at the event to celebrate Africa Day organised by Casa África and the Group of African Ambassadors in Spain (GEA).
Gabon's ambassador was in charge of receiving the guests at 8 p.m. and heading the awards ceremony that awarded the honours from the Federation of African Associations in the Canary Islands (FAAC) and Sur Foundation for their work in getting Africa and Africans known in Spain.
A round table began as 8.30 p.m. on the use of social networks by African civil societies, which was attended by the Senegalese blogger and journalist Cheikh Fall, creator of the SUNU 2012 platform, which channelled the popular mobilisation that helped ensure a cleaner electoral process in his country. Together with Fall, the winners of Casa África's last essay prize took part in the round table, which was specifically on the social networks in Africa and which counted on the experience of this Senegalese activist. Here are the Africanist and academic Antoni Castel and journalist and social networking expert Charles Bass. Finally, a corporate reception was held at 9.45p.m.
This event is part of Casa África's activities for the celebration of Africa Day, on Saturday 25th May, which this year marks the 50th anniversary of the creation of the Organisation for African Unity (OAU), now known as the African Union (AU). The celebration also includes collaboration with the Carlos de Amberes Foundation with the Seminar on the conflicts in the Great Lakes (Thursday 23rd) and the Big Africa Vive Concert on Friday 24th, to be held at La Riviera with the performance of Alpha Blondy from the Ivory Coast and Sidy Samb of Senegal.
