Casa África's Media Library opens two new rooms to the public

Casa África's  Media Library yesterday opened a screening room to the public for viewing the collection of films and documentaries available in the Media Library and where African television channels are also offered, together with a study room with twelve seats and four computers with internet access. The event featured a full programme of activities that included the presentation of its own electronic publishing, the presentation of awards to outstanding users of the Media Library in 2014 and an institutional presentation to students and teachers of the Diploma of African Studies of the University Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC). 

The events began at 7 p.m. with the reception of the participants in the Diploma in African Studies of the ULPGC by Casa África's Director General, Luis Padrón. In Casa África's auditorium,  the head of Casa África's Media Library and Web Area explained the functions and services of the Media Library and the new spaces open to the public. The EBook Purorrelato II, which brings together 50 short stories selected from those received in the last edition of this Casa África competition, was also presented together with texts by guest authors such as Sami Tchak, Vamba Sherif or Maria Jesús Alvarado.

Finally, there was the presentation of the awards to readers highlighted by the volume in the number of documents on loan from the Media Library during 2014, hovering around a hundred for each winner. The award consisted of a lot of books from Casa África collections for each one. Lara Astorga Pérez (Spain) was awarded the best reader in Spanish prize, while the Prize for best foreign-language reader was given to Hamath Samba Dia Sow (Mauritania). In addition, a third Prize for best children's reader which was given to Sue Agustí Correa (Colombia).
