Casa África launches a competition for short stories

05/04/2013

This week Casa África launches the first edition of Purorrelato, a competition for short stories in order to promote literary creation to encourage us to feel and think about Africa and show its different realities, always from the perspective of bringing us nearer to the continent and far from stereotypes and clichés .

Any author who is over 18 years old can take part in this competition, with a maximum of three short stories. The subject is free although the short stories should have some type of link to Africa. The story can take place inside or outside the continent and its degree of connection with Africa can vary from just a detail to the whole of it. The short stories can be presented in Spanish, English, French or Portuguese and should not be longer than 1,400 characters. The competition will remain open until the 1st July 2013, at 2 p.m. (Spanish mainland time).

The winning work will receive a prize of 500 euros. The second and third prizes will be for gift vouchers of 100 euros provided by Librería Canaima to use on their online shop. All the prize winners will also receive a lot with publications published as part of the,Casa África's Literature Collection. The jury will also set up a list of the 50 best short stories, which will be added to those sent by leading writers, so that they can all become part of a digital publication.

The works received will be assessed by a jury made by recognised experts in African literature. The decision of the prizes will be published before the 1st August 2013 on Casa África's website and the social networks Casa África is on.

The short stories should be original, unpublished and should not have won a prize or be pending a decision in other competitions or contests. The short stories must be sent, together with personal details, via a form on Casa África's website.
