27/01/2015

Since yesterday, Monday, Casa África hosts the workshop Oceanographic and biological characteristics and trends in the current Canary Islands marine ecosystem, organised by UNESCO and the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission  (IOC, in its acronym in English), with the collaboration of the Spanish Institute of Oceanography, the Spanish Agency for Development Cooperation (AECID) and Casa África.

The workshop, which ends on Thursday, has a series of presentations, work meetings and conferences and will end with advances in the draft of a publication in the field and a series of conclusions aimed at public administrations and political leaders of the sector.

The initiative was launched yesterday with a round table attended by Mónica Ruiz Bustos (AECID), Luis Valdés (IOC) and Arianne Hernández (Casa África). During its closing day, Thursday 29th, initiatives will be presented such as ODINAFRICA (Data and Ocean Information Network for Africa), based on OBIS data or the programme of the project's second phase Enhancing oceanographic capacities of West African countries.

This project aims to strengthen capacities in oceanography in West African countries ("Enhancing oceanography capacities of West African Countries"). The project is 100% funded by the AECID and aims to strengthen the capacities of the countries and regions of the environment to implement an integrated management of the ecosystem that contributes to sustainable use of the ocean and services based on coastal ecosystems.
