Casa África displays the CAAM´s African collections with the ‘Reloj de Arena Negra’ (Black Sand Watch)

12/05/2011

Today, Casa África presented the Reloj de Arena Negra (Black Sand Watch) exhibit as part of the activities for África Vive in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Africa in the CAAM´s Collection may be visited for free in the institution´s exhibit hall through September 30th. It consists of a selection of pieces at the Centro Atlántico de Arte Moderno (CAAM) by 10 contemporary African artists, which form part of a collection that has taken shape through the years with temporary exhibits that the Gran Canarian museum has used to show its constant interest in the neighbouring continent.

The pieces displayed in Casa África are by contemporary African creators, some residents of the continent, who have participated in temporary exhibits produced by the CAAM since its establishment, and include Willie Bester (South Africa, 1956), Théodore Dakpogan (Benin, 1956) and Sokari Douglas-Camp (Nigeria, 1958).

Reloj de Arena Negra (Black Sand Watch) Africa in the CAAM´s Collection is open to the public between now and September 30th. It may be visited Monday to Friday, from 10:00 to 20:00.
