Casa África and Binter collaborate in a programme supporting travel agents in their promotion of African destinations

18/04/2016

Today, the general secretary of Casa África, Arianne Hernández, attended the opening of the Experience Workshops in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, organized by the airline Binter Canarias, to introduce information about four of its African destinations to about 120 travel agents from the island of Gran Canaria. The destinations are: Sal, in Cape Verde; Banjul, in Gambia; and Agadir and Marrakech in Morocco.

The event was opened by the president of Binter, Pedro Agustín del Castillo, who explained that the company now has eleven routes to the African continent and that Binter’s commitment to maintain these destinations is firm. This is despite the fact that, although numbers have been growing steadily, more movement of travellers is still needed in order to reach the desired profitability. Del Castillo explained that at start-up most of the passengers were from the destination countries, but that increased business between the Canary Islands and African countries means that about 50% of passengers are now of Spanish nationality.

The general secretary of Casa África, Arianne Hernández, congratulated Binter for backing Africa and noted that much of the increase in flights between Spain and Africa is due to the commitment made to enhance the Canary Islands as a hub to the African continent. Hernández encouraged travel agencies to promote African destinations, as they always offer “a wonderful experience and a constant discovery”.
