17/06/2016

This morning, Casa África hosted working sessions for institutions and companies from Gran Canaria and six Canadian companies involved in mining and complementary services which were members of an inbound trade mission organised by the Ministry of the Economy, Industry, Trade and Knowledge of the Government of the Canary Islands.

Member institutions of the promotional brand ProGranCanaria participated in today's meetings, and there were presentations from the Society for the Economic Promotion of Gran Canaria (SPEGC), ICEX Spain Export and Investments and the Director General of Casa África, Luis Padrón López. There were also meetings with representatives of the regional government and with experts in tax and labour issues. Later, in several of the public diplomacy organisation’s meeting rooms, business meetings were held between companies from the Canary Islands and Canadian companies which were members of the mission.

The four day Canadian mission closed this afternoon with a visit to the facilities of the airport of Gran Canaria and has already included presentations from PROEXCA, the Canary Islands Special Zone (ZEC) and visits to the ports of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and La Luz in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The objective of these meetings, in the framework of the regional government’s strategy The Canary Islands, European business hub for Africa, is to show Canadian companies not only the benefits and potential of establishing themselves in the archipelago as a base for operations in West African countries, but also to hear first-hand the success stories of foreign companies who have established themselves in the islands to operate with African countries.
