African cinema for the World Forum on Education, Research and Culture of Peace

13/12/2010

Casa África has contributed to the World Forum on Education, Research and Culture of Peace being held these days in Santiago de Compostela with a film season organised in collaboration with Cinenómada and the Tarifa African Film Festival (FCAT), and with the support of the Regional Government of A Coruña. The film season focuses on human rights in Africa, and it may be viewed today and tomorrow at the Caixa Galicia Foundation´s headquarters. This film season is free and open to all audiences. The films will be presented by Mane Cisneros, the FCAT´s director.

La tumultueuse vie d'un déflaté (The Tumultuous Life of the Unemployed), by Camille Plagnet, will be shown today at 8:30 pm, followed by Enjoy Poverty, by Renzo Martens. Tomorrow (Wednesday) it will be the turn of L'Afrique en morceaux (Africa in Pieces), by Jihan El Tahri.

Casa África sponsors Cinenómada because it has the same objective as Al-Tarab of making African cinema visible to as many Spanish audiences as possible and of brining Africa closer to Spain.

Cinenómada makes available to various entities a large selection of films from past editions of the FCAT, subtitled in Spanish, which is to date the only offering of this dimension and genre that exists in Spain and that guarantees African producers an income, which although modest, is often the only one they receive.

It targets associations, municipalities, regional governments, universities, cultural centres, film libraries, museums and any type of organisation or institution that is interested in promoting African cinema. Cinenómada distributes films throughout the year that would otherwise remain only in specialised festivals.
