16th ‘Objective Africa’ Photography Competition - Africa today: photojournalism and a critical perspective

Casa África announces its 16^th Photography Contest «Objetivo África», which will reward the photographs that best showcase the positive aspects of the African continent.  This year's theme is Africa today: photojournalism and a critical perspective

The 16th edition of Objetivo África invites us to focus our lens on contemporary Africa, with the aim of highlighting the many faces of the continent from a committed, documented and honest perspective.

In a world saturated with images, photojournalism becomes a crucial tool for telling what is happening—and also what is being silenced—in contemporary African realities: social processes, activism, democratic transitions, youth, migration, sustainability, urban challenges and technological innovation.

This theme aims not only to stimulate the practice of visual journalism with ethics and depth, but also to contribute to breaking stereotypes, promoting diverse narratives and bringing the general public closer to the current dynamics affecting the African continent. Images that are capable of telling stories with humanity, rigour and respect, and that do not focus on stereotypical or negative aspects, will be particularly valued.

The deadline for submitting applications and photographs is 2 May 2026 at 14.00 hours (GMT +0).

Each applicant may participate with a maximum of five (5) photographs to be submitted online through the platform MundoArti. The photographs must be sent in JPEG format, with a minimum resolution of 200 dpi and weighing between 1 and 5 MB.

The jury, composed of leading professionals in the arts field, will assess the creativity, the innovation of the technique used and the way the message is conveyed. The description and the title of the photograph will also be assessed under these criteria.

The awards for this 16^th edition of Objetivo África are:

1. First award: 1000€
2. Second award: 500€
3. Third award: 300€

Participation process:

• Download, fill in, sign and scan your application form. Save the generated PDF because you will need it to attach it on the platform
• Have your photographs and the description of each one of them ready, as well as the place and date where they were taken
• Have a copy of your ID card or passport ready
