IX Encuentro de Biblioteconomía y Documentación: Sociedad digital y redes

Casa África is holding its 9th Library and Information Sciences Meeting. This year it takes place over two days and the theme is “The digital society and social networks”. A workshop on the treatment of “fake news” will be held in the Arucas Public Library on 22 November, and the library and information sciences meeting will take place in Casa África on 23 November.

In this 9th Meeting, we’ll discuss how to reconcile the immediacy demanded by social networks and the rate of information with the need to contrast information and ensure its veracity. How to identify and deal with fake news?

Throughout the day, the challenges will be discussed: how to create an identity and a good reputation on social media, how to create a brand, positioning, transparency, veracity, and also the risks that come with social media: the time pressures imposed, the immediacy, the impossibility of contrasting news, the tyranny of the click.

The meeting will include experts in communication, participation, and new social and business trends. We’ll discuss leadership, positioning, the transformation of communication models and trends in this digital society, keys or guidelines to expand the community online, and the structure generated through social media that is enabling institutions, communications media and libraries (as information professionals) to reach new audiences and position ourselves better to act as a “hub”.

This year, thanks to synergies created with other libraries and associations, the meeting will be held over two days:

  • The meeting on 22 November will be held at Arucas Public Library, together with the association Abigranca. This day will consist of a workshop on fake news taught by Javier Moreno Barreto.
  • On 23 November, the 9th Meeting of Library and Information Sciences “The Digital Society and Social Networks” will be held at Casa África from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
