'Bienvenidos al Paraíso'

On December 2, at 8:30 pm, Casa Africa will inaugurate the Bienvenidos al Paraíso (Welcome to Paradise) exhibit, of the South African photographer Nontsikelelo Veleko.

The exhibit combines the unique work completed in recent years by this young photographer, who is a reference of the documentary genre in the African continent, with her recent exploration through the streets of various municipalities of Gran Canaria in order to capture the life of Africans that live on the islands. This new project by Veleko, completed at the request of Casa Africa, led her to the streets of various municipalities of Gran Canaria.

With this new project, the artist has wanted to draw attention to what she calls her stories about life, details and her memory, in order to enrich the viewer´s perspective of these communities. Her objective is to unravel the clichés formed around this group, combining it with her earlier work carried out in the streets of Johannesburg and Cape City.
