Biyi Bandele

A Nigerian novelist and playwright who currently lives in London, the city where his first novel came to light: 'The Man Who Came from the Back of Beyond' (1991). His work has received numerous awards.

Biyi Bandele-Thomas was born in Nigeria in 1967. A novelist and playwright, he is considered to be a versatile and prolific writer who has worked in theatre, print media, television, film and radio. His work has received the recognition of numerous awards, although his 1997 adaptation of Things Fall Apart (by Chinua Achebe) for the British stage is what confirmed his position in the international panorama. He currently resides in London, where he moved in 1990.

Bandele has worked as a playwright for the Royal Court Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company. Some of his works include The Man Who Came in from the Back of Beyond (1991); Marching for Fausa (1993); or The Street (2000).
