24/05/2016

The Casa África Diplomatic Council, attended by the ambassadors of those African countries accredited in Spain, met this morning at the Palacio de Viana of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation in Madrid. The meeting, chaired by the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Ignacio Ybáñez, was attended by the 23 African ambassadors accredited in Spain, the Director General of Casa África, Luis Padrón, and the General Secretary of the institution, Arianne Hernández. The Director General for Relations with Africa, Pablo Martín-Carbajal attended on behalf of the Government of the Canary Islands, patron of Casa África.

The Casa África Diplomatic Council meets once a year in Madrid, always on a date close to Africa Day (25 May) and this is the meeting at which the African countries with diplomatic presence in Madrid learn about the current and future projects of the public diplomacy institution based in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. This time, Casa África has proposed to the ambassadors the activation of the Standing Committee of the Diplomatic Council, under Article 13 of the Statute of the Consortium, which serves to reinforce and increase collaboration between the Casa and the African Ambassadors Group (GEA) through more frequent meetings.

Meanwhile, Pablo Martín-Carbajal explained to the ambassadors the work done through the Canary Business Hub, the strategy of regional internationalization mainly directed towards Africa and the possibility of requesting MAC funds for projects and initiatives involving countries in West Africa.
