#ÁfricaEsNoticia: "Yihad en África: los radicalismos en el continente y su enfoque desde España"

In the second #ÁfricaEsNoticia Security Conference, Casa África is focussing on the impact the emergence and consolidation of jihadist terrorism has had in Africa. The cases of Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) and the various jihadist groups that have taken advantage of the vastness of the Sahel and the lack of border controls to make it their base of operations, the presence of Boko Haram in Nigeria, Al Shabaab in Somalia and the recent DAESH influence (so-called Islamic State) have resulted in terrorism with a religious background becoming a real and serious threat to Africa’s security.

This threat no longer only affects regions like Libya, the Sahel and the Horn of Africa but has spread, through specific attacks such as those perpetrated in Paris or Brussels, to countries with a greater degree of stability and security, such as Tunisia, the Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Kenya or even Egypt.

In these seminars, we will reflect on the impact of jihadism in Africa and also investigate the various interpretations of Islam and the very specific socio-economic and political contexts as the source of this growth. We will discuss mechanisms for conflict resolution and prevention, for development and security and the phenomenon of jihadism from the Spanish perspective. We will also talk about the Spanish nationals who have decided to join the jihad in various parts of the world.
