African Women Photographers

Promoted by Casa Africa, this collection is aimed at making the most outstanding African woman photographers better known, particularly those who have won the Casa Africa Award at the Bamako African Photography Biennial. Our aim is to draw attention to the broad-ranging diversity of African photography and the solid creativity of its photographers.

African Women Photographers/ Zanele Muholi

Zanele Muholi is the first title of this collection. Born in Durban (South Africa) in 1972, Muholi is a visual activists who endeavors to give greater visibility to the black lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersexual community of her country and beyond. Although her perspective is highly radical and provocative, it is simultaneously filtered through a truly intense, lucid and profoundly tender gaze. This first title of the collection has been edited together with La Fábrica Editorial en directed by Masasam Spaces for Artistic Creation.
