Governing Bodies of the Casa África Consortium


The Casa África Consortium is regulated by the following governing bodies: the Governing Council, the Delegate Committee and the Director General.

The Consortium also includes another personal entity: the Secretary General; two consultative bodies: the Advisory Council and the Diplomatic Council; and a specialist body: the Commission for Management of the Patrimony.

 

Governing Council


The Governing Council acts as a management board and holds the highest authority within the Consortium. The presidency lasts two years and alternates between the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation and the President of the Government of the Canary Islands.

 

The Governing Council is made up of five representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, three from the Government of the Canary Islands and one from the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council. Its current members are:

Note: The Secretary General of Casa África acts as secretary of the Governing Council and other bodies of the Consortium, as established in its Statutes. 

 

Delegate Committee


The Delegate Committee of the Governing Council is made up of two of the representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, two of the representatives from the Government of the Canary Islands, the representative designated by Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council and the Director General, who coordinates the meetings.

The Director General of the Consortium is the highest executive position held by an individual person. The appointment is made by the Governing Council, at the proposal of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation. Candidates are selected from among persons of recognised prestige and experience in international relations, especially in the African sphere, and appointment is by consensus agreement of the members of the Governing Council.

The Secretary General of the Consortium is an individual position and is executive in nature. The appointment is made by the Governing Council, at the proposal of the Government of the Canary Islands. Candidates are selected from among persons of recognised prestige and professional experience, especially in the African sphere, and appointment is by consensus agreement of the members of the Governing Council. 

 

Diplomatic Council


The Diplomatic Council is an advisory body to the Consortium and is made up of the African ambassadors accredited in Spain. This Council acts through a standing committee, composed of a minimum of three and a maximum of five members, and is chaired by the dean of the African ambassadors.  

 

Advisory Council


The Advisory Council is a consultative body made up of people who are of note in the fields of cultural, economic or business relations with Africa. Where appropriate, they will also be joined by representatives from institutions, businesses or economic entities. Its members are appointed by the Governing Council at the proposal of the entities which form the consortium.  

 

Commission for Management of the Patrimony


The Commission for Management of the Patrimony is a specialised management body of the Consortium, which assumes the functions of rehabilitation, conservation and maintenance of the headquarters of Casa África, in accordance with current regulations.
