Casa África celebrates Africa Day by translating into Spanish, publishing and presenting the key work of the Senegalese intellectual and historian Cheikh Anta Diop: Black nations and culture. The book, edited by Bellaterra and translated by Albert Roca, will be presented to the public tomorrow Thursday 24th May 19.30 at the institution's headquarters. The event will be attended by the work's translator and the Councillor for Culture of the Town Council of Las Palmas of Gran Canaria María Isabel García Bolta, and will be held at the same time at Casa Árabe, where it will be presented by the author's son CheikhMbackeDiop.

The celebration of Africa Day in Casa África will continue with some African percussion and dance workshops open to everyone at the institution's headquarters on the 25th May from 19.00 onwards. Finally Casa África will support Africa Day's charity fiesta organised by Play Color, Afrikis Canarias and Inside the Moskito Net Art Project on the terrace of the TAO Club & Garden in the capital of Gran Canaria. This fiesta, called Afrikacolor, will start at 18.00 on Saturday 26th May and will end at dawn the following day with a series of workshops and cultural experiences that revolve around the African continent. Part of the money raised for this initiative will be reinvested in an artistic and environmental project on the beaches of Ghana.

Black nations and culture are part of Casa África's History and Politics Collection, whose aim is to support editing texts integrated into the African Studies Library of  Bellaterra Edicions. Through these titles, African cultural heritage will be disseminated in Spain so as to bring the Spanish public nearer to the legacy of African society's great thinkers. The collaboration of Casa África and Bellaterra is based on the translation and re-editing of the African thinkers' important titles, people who have meant so much to the African continent due to their political and cultural initiatives, such as is the case of, Joseph Ki-Zerbo, Kwame Nkrumah or Cheikh Anta Diop himself.
