Aside from its own essay and literature collections, Casa África supports in various ways the edition of publications that draw attention to the knowledge of African and Africanist thinkers, writers and theorists. Along these lines, Casa África has supported the edition of these titles:

El Libro de los Secretos

El libro de los Secretos, by Boubacar Boris Diop
Nguirane Faye is an old man, who feeling he is near to death, decides to write to the favourite of  his descendants, his grandson, Badou, who emigrated years ago to "the land of the whites" and is somewhere in Europe. Convinced that he will never see him again, he reveals the story of his family over seven books. His story begins with the conditions for the repatriation of the body of his son Hassan, Badu's father, who died in Marseilles, where he had gone to continue his football career. In this chronicle he sheds his anger and bitterness, but also the love for his land and his people. Written in beautiful language, filled with metaphors and vivid evocations, this book which is full of symbols is a journey through the rich cultural heritage of Senegal and a celebration of memory and links between generations.

La espiral comunicativa, educativa y migratoria para África

The communicative, educational and migration spiral for Africa

This collective work integrates researchers from different countries in Africa with researchers from Spanish universities, thereby assuming an important step in the cooperation between universities of our country with the countries of West Africa. The various contributions to this publication, are constructed from different prisms that serve the themes addressed in the title of the book regarding African reality. The editors of the work, Guillermina Franco and David Garcia, develop an implementation proposal and design for an e-learning platform designed to provide lifelong learning to a Senegalese immigrant community.

Cambio_Climatico

Climate Change and Renewable Energies in Asia and Africa

Casa Asia y Casa África present the conclusions of the 'International Conference on Climate Change and Renewable Energies in Asia and Africa', co-organised by both institutions in collaboration with AECID, the "La Caixa" Social Work Foundation and the ACS Foundation. The topics discussed in the publication include multilateral programmes for sustainable development in the fields of energy policies, regional and worldwide policies in the fight against climate change, strategies for using clean energy in Asian and African countries, and corporate cooperation in the renewable energy industry between Africa, Asia and Europe.

De_Guinea_Ecuatorial_a_las_litetraturas_hispanoafricanas

De Guinea Ecuatorial a las literaturas hispanoafricanas (From Equatorial Guinea to Hispanic-African Literature)

This book reinforces a productive network of academics, from alternative Hispanism, that contributes towards the dissemination of African literature in the Spanish language and introducing Hispanic-African literary studies into scientific research, university education, and the editorial field within the current global framework of inevitable cultural confluences and literary interactions. The author, Landry Wilfrid Miampika, is from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and holds a PhD in Hispanic Literature from the Universidad de Alcalá de Henares and the Universidad de La Habana. He is currently a professor at the Universidad de Alcalá and leads a Hispanic-African Library Collection at Verbum Editorial, in addition to making presentations at conferences, seminars and courses about African and post-colonial Caribbean literature.

La_palabra_y_la_memoria

La palabra y la memoria: Guinea Ecuatorial 25 años después (The Word and the Memory: Equatorial Guinea, 25 Years Later)

After 25-year literary journey, the voices in 'The Word and the Memory' analyse the cracks in the post-colonial situation of Equatorial Guinea and attempt to recover its memory in order to overcome the negative experience of establishing new ties between individuals and the community, between the immediate history and the future history. Despite a scarce visibility in Spain and black Africa, these writers who also contribute to the prestige and wealth of the Spanish language, create literature from Equatorial Guinea in constant search of plenitude. The harmony between their words and memories has an imaginary power that is able to combine possibilities of collective creativity and the subject´s emancipation, the focus of post-colonial literature for a story yet to come and yet to happen.

Cuaderno_Estrategia_PazySeguridad

Strategy Notebook. European and African Response to the Problems of Security in Africa

Casa África has collaborated in editing this notebook, aware that Africa is no longer the forgotten continent and instead it has consolidated its deserved space and role in the contemporary world´s complex game of international relations, with its own voice and a clear set of objectives. This gives way to a new reality, potentially richening for everyone, full of opportunities and challenges, in which we must highlight the important change that Spain has made to its foreign policies towards the African continent, assuming a new and differentiated focus compared to that of other European nations, and searching for African solutions to African issues. The PDF is available for download (EspañolEnglish).

Cuadernos_canarioafricanos_vol2

Cuadernos de Estudios Canario-Africanos. (Canarian-African Study Notebooks) Vol. 2

The objectives of these Notebooks is to provide the islands with a collection that allows them to review the historical connection that has always existed between the archipelago and the African continent, so close and so far at the same time, and from which old and new winds arrive that comprise the Euro-African identity that geography and history have imposed on the islands. This second volume of Notebooks collects the speeches from the symposium that opened a space to reflect on an issue that is highly relevant at the time--Islam, its characteristics, the role it plays, the Hispanic perception of it, and its presence in nearby countries such as Morocco, Mauritania or Senegal. Casa África and the Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria have made it possible to publish this new dialogue exercise between cultures.

Terrorismo Internacional en África

Terrorismo internacional en África. La construcción de una amenaza en el Sahel. (International Terrorism in Africa. Building a Threat in the Sahel.)

In the field of African security, the Sahel has been identified as an area of concern because of its recurrent tensions and conflicts as well as the supposed terrorist threat that flourishes there. In an international context dominated by the poorly named "war against terror", the interests of local, regional and international governmental actors come together to focus on the seriousness of this threat. While other issues are ignored, data is increasingly manipulated in order to justify the need to interfere in order to stop the supposed terrorism of Al Qaeda and other local groups. The objective of this work, which centres on this hypothetical threat, is to highlight response methods that are different from the ones already used, for example, in Iraq.

Democracia y buen gobierno en África Subsahariana

Democracia y buen gobierno en África Subsahariana (Democracy and Good Governance in Sub-Saharan Africa)

This book is the result of the dialogue between Africanists from various countries and areas, who have come together for the summer course on "A New Agenda of Democracy and Good Governance for Sub-Saharan Africa", which took place at the International Menéndez Pelayo University in 2006. The objective is to promote knowledge and reflection on the complex African political reality in which phenomena such as the role of women, migrations, participation in the civil society, the decentralisation processes and the challenges for developmental cooperation are key elements for approaching the continent´s current situation.
Coordinated by Ana Rosa Alcalde and J. Alfonso Ortiz, it includes the work of a number of collaborators.

Africanissimo

Africaníssimo. Una aproximación multidisciplinar a las culturas negroafricanas (Africanism. A Multi-Disciplinary Approach to Black African Cultures)

Olga Barrios (editor), Seville, 2009: This multidisciplinary collection of essays about such diverse topics like history, philosophy, human rights and armed conflicts, literature, theatre, dance and arts and crafts, aims to contribute towards bringing us closer to the multiple and varied Black African cultures that exist and to fight against increasingly higher walls that are built by racism and stereotypes, with which most immigrants and Sub-Saharan asylum seekers are received in our country.
This book also aims to serve as stimulus for other researchers in order to continue expanding knowledge about the multiple aspects of Black African cultures.

Microcreditos

Microcréditos para el desarrollo: Asia - África (Microcredits for Development: Asia - Africa)

This document is the result of the events co-organised by Casa África and Casa Asia. This international seminar centred on microcredits as a development mechanism and its contribution towards reaching the Millennium Development Goals (MDG). It also includes debates about whether microcredits can be considered to be an effective mechanism for women´s empowerment, and therefore a contributing factor for gender equality. The individuals that participated in the event included Muhammad Yunus, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006.

Darfur

Darfur. Coordenadas de un desastre (Darfur, Coordinates of a Disaster)

This is the brief story of a long conflict. Almost at the same time as the United States invaded Iraq and the planet focused on Baghdad, halfway between Lake Chad and the Nile Valley, a war was breaking out that in the following months would be the centre of attention in the front pages of newspapers all over the world. Ten years after the Rwandan genocide, western Sudan was the setting of genocide practices that could only be compared to those recorded in the Great Lakes country. Uncovering the causes of why, just as in Rwanda, the international community has limited itself to the mere spectator role, is the objective of this book. The author, Alberto Masagosa, has worked as a correspondent for the EFE agency throughout the world for 25 years.

migraciones

Migraciones e integración cultural. Lecturas históricas desde el espacio insular (Migrations and Cultural Integration. Historical Writings from the Islands)

Coordinated by José Alberto Galván, this book analyses, from a multidisciplinary and transnational perspective, the current situation of the Canary Islands within the context of intense immigration from a number of origins. A situation that reproduces one of the archipelago´s unique historical attributes--the renewal of its role as a region of transit in the migratory routes from and to the European continent. On this part of the European Union´s southern border, the significant challenges faced by the efforts to manage the migratory phenomenon are now visible. As a result, the European Fortress will have to stand by its declarations of universal rights through responsible sovereignty.

Mbini

Mbini. Cazadores de imágenes en la Guinea colonial (Mgini. Image Hunters in Colonial Guinea)

Mbini is a book and a DVD that collects the photographs and films from the cinematographic expedition to Spanish Guinea by Manuel Hernández Sanjuán and his team from Hermic Films between 1944 and 1946. That pioneer cinematographic journey was the most important and significant effort that had ever been made to document the Spanish colonial universe in Black Africa. Beyond its propagandistic intention, the images, of great quality, are of extraordinary historical, documentary and ethnographic interest. Sixty years after the conclusion of that surprising expedition, texts, interviews, never-before-seen photographs, original films and other items recover the forgotten joy of the Spanish documentary.

Mi nombre es Nadie

Mi nombre es nadie. El viaje más antiguo del mundo (My Name is Nobody. The Oldest Journey in the World)

This work (an audio book with 4 CDs) is a collection of the audio materials that were created by journalists Carla Fibla and Nicolás Castellano during seven years in the immigration routes between Africa and Europe. In it, those people who one day decided to take a risk and leave behind their loved ones with the promise of returning, and especially of sending resources to help them survive, are given the opportunity to speak without time limits. They undertake an uncertain path, in which they will have to face the injustice, racism and violence of the current society. It is neither a tribute nor a recognition. It is the reality of a life that practically no one can image from the comforts of Europe.
This work received an award from the Universidad de Valencia.

GeneroyCultura

Género y cultura en la planificación del desarrollo (Gender and Culture in Development Planning)

This material is part of the awareness campaign for development cooperation titled Guía para la elaboración de proyectos de cooperación para el desarrollo con perspectiva de género (Guide for Preparing Cooperation Projects for Development with a Gender Perspective) completed by FUNDESCAN. Its aim is to draw attention to the importance of truly involving women in cooperation projects, not only to achieve a direct impact in terms of equality and fairness between men and women, but also for these activities to be effective instruments in the fight against poverty. The idea is to understand development with a focus on gender, to include the appropriate conceptual tools and to approach it with a vision without prejudices by the hand of Roxana Volio Monge, an expert in these challenges. The PDF can be downloaded.

El carro de los dioses

El carro de los dioses (The Cart of the Gods)

This book is a sample of stories and fragments of novels by six Cameroonian authors who write in Spanish, which is not their native language but they have good knowledge of it and have freely chosen it as a vehicle for artistic expression.
If there is one thing that defines Cameroon, it´s the country´s cultural and linguistic wealth. A valuable and ancient oral legacy feeds, directly or indirectly, a literature that exists in native languages as well as western languages (primarily French, English and German), but thanks to this group of intellectuals, Cameroonian literature, so rich and permeable, is now also expressed in Spanish.

AfricaNuevaFronteraChina

África. La nueva frontera china (Africa. The New Chinese Border)

The relevance of China´s presence in Africa has grown exponentially in recent years. To be able to somewhat understand the real impact of this presence in areas such as the governance, the economic institutions or the sustainable development of this continent, Casa Asia and Casa África jointly organised an international seminar in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria with the same title as this book, which is merely a collection of the contents presented at that seminar along with other complementary articles, the result of a collaboration with the Centre for Chinese Studies at the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa. The PDF can be downloaded

MosaicoCuentosAfricanos

Mosaico de cuentos africanos (Mosaic of African Stories)

An anthology of 15 French-language stories that includes texts from Mali, Guinea, Benin, Congo, Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Niger, Ivory Coast, Gabon, Senegal and Togo. This bilingual edition addresses the desire to provide the original French text (often resulting from an oral transcription of native languages) next to the Spanish version. The theme was one of the top criteria in selecting these stories that are representative of the French-speaking Sub-Saharan area, where stories are not only fun and entertainment, but they also serve to illustrate and resolve delicate matters using images, symbols or by transferring human situations to surreal worlds and giving way to the voice of popular knowledge, which has always been listened to the most.

PEA

Perspectivas Económicas de África 2009 (Economic Perspectives of Africa 2009)

Casa África financed the Spanish translation of this report about the economic perspectives of Africa 2009. Since their appearance eight years ago, the economic perspectives of Africa have become a reference thanks to the detailed analysis of economic, social and political aspects. This unique tool combines the experience of the African Development Bank, the OECD´s Development Centre, and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, with the support of the European Commission. The economic perspectives of Africa take advantage of the knowledge that has accumulated in a network of African research centres in order to plan, write and distribute the study. The 2009 edition also includes an in depth study about IT and its specific role in Africa´s development. It can be downloaded here.

CronicaViajeSurSahara

Crónica de un viaje al sur del Sáhara (Chronicle of a Journey South of the Sahara)

In this work, Alberto Masegosa, who is very knowledgeable of the Black continent, tells us how contemporary political leaders like Robert Mugabe, Youeri Museveni and Paul Kagame have not made reality the hope given off fifty years ago by historical leaders such as Kwame Nkrumah, Jomo Kenyatta or Julius Nyerere. It is a journalistic journey through Africa´s political life, a black and white story of how politicians have frustrated the lives of their people while citizens fight to survive on a daily basis, perfectly aware that they have been forgotten by the Western world, except for rare occasions when the media decides to cover a topic and Africa appears in all the first world´s newscasts for one week. Afterwards, they are forgotten once again.

Somalia

Somalia

Since 1991, Somalia has experienced a crisis that, far from subsiding, runs the risk of growing with time. Punished by tribal disputes and the ominous legacy of the post-colonial period, the Republic of Somalia has especially suffered from the regional and international struggles freed in the Horn of Africa. This, combined with the Islamic political effect, represented in Somalia by the Islamic Tribunes, with all it entails within the context of the so called international war against terrorism. The nation´s inability to agree on an acceptable State model or the predominance of war militias continue making Somalia an example of a failed State, socially and institutionally, resulting in the constant threat of instability in the region.
