Africa Forum 2013. África 2.0: Aprovechando la riqueza de recursos naturales para la transformación económica
Casa África's General Director, Mr. Santiago Martinez-Caro, will be at Africa Forum 2013,an annual gathering of politicians, economists and researchers working on and with Africa.

Each year, more than 500 participants including ministers, senior representatives of the private sector, academics and civil society organisations, come together to discuss the performance of African economies and the major challenges facing the continent.

The Forum is organised by the Development Centre of the OECD, in collaboration with the African Development Bank (AfDB), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), the French government and the European Union.

Reversing the previous trend of the 90s, the structural transformation in Africa has been positive over the past 10 years: total productivity increased and work has tended to go towards more productive activities. With an expected growth of 4.8% in 2013 and 5.3% for 2014, the medium-term economic outlook for Africa remains favourable despite the headwinds of the global economy.

The current African economies face the formidable challenge of creating profitable employment opportunities for millions of people who maintain this rate of growth and make it increasingly inclusive. To create sustainable employment opportunities and generate wealth, African countries need to focus on maximizing their natural resources and establishing conditions that lead to greater diversification and growth of their economies. Structural transformation and inclusion are key to exploiting this great potential and the wealth of natural resources in Africa can provide the basis.
