Launch of the “Project for the improvement of health and prevention of gender violence”

Casa África is collaborating with Radio ECCA Canary Islands Foundation to provide them with a space to run this project to improve health (through improved awareness) and prevent gender violence with a focus on migrant women.
The project is funded by the Ministry of Labour, Migration and Social Security and the European Social Fund and its main objective is to provide non-EU migrant women with relevant information on actions they can take to improve their health and prevent gender-based violence.
The ECCA method requires participants to register and complete three training programmes related to this content and thus obtain the accredited qualification, although the main purpose is that the content taught represents a significant change in the knowledge and personal development of those taking part.
The course consists of 80 hours of training, certified by Radio ECCA:
- Prevention of sexually transmitted infections: 20 hours
- What does “equality” mean in a relationship: 30 hours
- Mother and baby care: 30 hours
The main idea is to promote improving the integral well-being of the immigrant population, especially women, placing more emphasis on sexual, maternal and child health and the prevention of gender violence. The objectives of the project are:
- To increase the interest of immigrant women in receiving notifications about health information.
- To provide them with appropriate information on health education, carrying out activities related to maternal and child health, and sexual health.
- To reflect on the values that our society attributes to motherhood and what is expected of it.
- To discover the health resources which are available and to which immigrant women can turn to improve their health and that of their children, as well as the rights and social benefits related to maternity and paternity.
- To raise awareness of relationships based on violence and prevent their creation and development.
- To identify situations of gender-based violence and other forms of violence.
This project will be launched on Tuesday 21 May 2019, at 10:00am, in Casa África’s Nelson Mandela Auditorium. Admission is free and open to all. Limited capacity.
